There are three types:
Basic Registration – For small food businesses with turnover up to ₹12 lakh.
State License – For businesses with turnover between ₹12 lakh and ₹20 crore.
Central License – For large-scale businesses or those involved in import/export and operating in multiple states.
Common documents include:
Passport-size photo of the applicant
Government-issued ID proof
Proof of business address
Food safety management plan
Additional documents may be required based on the license type.
The processing time varies:
Basic Registration: 7–10 working days
State License: 15–20 working days
Central License: 25–30 working days
FSSAI licenses are valid for 1 to 5 years, depending on the option selected during application. Renewal must be done before expiry.
